Alertra Security Services

"...what if trouble comes looking for you?"

This is a quote from the introductory article describing our SecureSite™ product. Our new security services are designed to answer that question. If trouble does come looking for you in the form of a hacker or some new worm, our Portscan and SecureSite™ products can catch the problem in its early stages or even before it is a problem at all. Our security services also answer another very important question:

Someone is already probing your network for vulnerabilities. Are you?

This article briefly discusses Alertra's security products and their uses. Click the heading links to find more detailed information.

SecureSite

Bottom Line: Get an extensive review of potential security vulnerabilities in your systems by the industry leading Nessus scanner every day, week or on-demand.

Our SecureSite™ product is based on the de facto standard Nessus security vulnerability scanner. The Nessus scanner tests for over 7,000 vulnerabilities. We maintain the software and keep the vulnerability list updated with a daily feed from the Nessus developers. SecureSite™ provides the most comprehensive automated scan available anywhere.

Every day, every week, or on-demand, you will receive an e-mail containing the results of the scan. To save you time, each e-mail will provide a "differences" report that will only show the new issues that have come up since the last scan. If the report shows all zeros, you can just delete it and get on with your day.

See this article for more information on how this product works and why you should be using it.

Portscan

Bottom Line: Know what ports are open on your system and be notified when new ports, possibly from malicious activity, are opened.

Alertra's Portscan device is an entry level security product that provides important and timely data about your network configuration. Portscan runs once per night and looks for all the open ports on a given host. Ports that you expect to be open are fine. However, if Alertra finds ports open on that host that shouldn't be there, you will be notified. This provides an important check on your router and server configuration.

There are several reasons new ports might become active. Maybe your system administrator has recently opened the FTP port for your customers to upload files to. Perhaps someone was testing a new application that unknowingly opened a port to listen on. Or maybe, someone you didn't expect installed an application you don't want, that opened a port into your most trusted system? Alertra's Portscan product is designed to detect new open TCP ports and notify you that they are there.

We keep up with the latest discovered Trojans and are constantly adding to our list of known ports to scan for.

Our Portscan product does not conduct the exhaustive review of potential security vulnerabilities that our SecureSite™ product does. Portscan will, however, provide critical information on the services you have listening.
